Flores Corner

September 4th
Reading: We will work on determining setting in different stories. Knowing the "where and when" makes a big difference in how the story plays out.

Writing: The students will work in their Writer's Notebooks and begin to think like a writer. We will work on expanding simple sentences by adding adjectives, strong verbs and adverbs. We will design a setting for a story and describe it in detail.

Grammar: Now that we know the basic parts of speech, we will work on identifying subjects and predicates.

Science: We will take the "Process Skills/ Scientific Method" test on Wednesday. Then we will begin our unit on weather. We will start by discussing the differences between weather and climate.

Sneak Peek at Next Week

Grammar: We are working on the parts of speech. There are 8 basic parts of speech, but we will focus on nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and pronouns. We are watching videos, playing charades, word games and using them in writing.

Writing: We will set up our Writer's Notebooks next week in class. Your child already has a composition notebook so you will not need to purchase anything.

Science: We are working on the process skills and how to apply them to the scientific method. We will do experiments next week in class to take your child through this process. We talked about qualitative and quantitative observations. Ask your child the difference between the two? (qualitative uses the senses and quantitative uses numbers and measures)

Tests/ Quizzes

Thursday: Parts of Speech quiz

Friday: Process Skills/ Scientific Method test (subject to be moved back)
