Friday Folders

I apologize again. I feel so bad because my students' pictures did not go home. The folders were still sitting on the back table. We had a mini monster celebration in conjunction with what Ms. Flores was teaching and it ended up lasting until it was time for us to walk downstairs. I was supposed to send an email, but unfortunately I could not get to the group email from my phone. My apologies. They will go home on Monday.

Sneak Peek at Next Week

Math - We will be working on place value and rounding. Those students who have already completed lesson 1-12 will be working on word problems during this time. They will do some quickchecks on the lessons as well. Even though I will be whole group teaching, they still need to Zearn, especially if they have not yet reached lesson 12.

Social Studies - We are rounding up our unit on Native Americans. The test will not be until Tuesday because there was 1 more activity I wanted to do with the kids. Please make sure they have their cut-up vocabulary cards and definitions, Monday and Tuesday. There is a quizlet that has been shared with them with these words that Noah B. made. Thanks, Noah.  The next until coming up is on explorers.


Field Trip:
The field trip to Brattonsville will take place October 27th. We plan to leave at 8:30 a.m. and return by 2:30 p.m. I will give you more details next week. Your next payment of $95 is due November 13th.

Here are a few notes about the trip:

• We'll be leaving right at 8am and SHOULD BE arriving back at about 2:15.  
• Students need to follow the school dress code and wear tennis shoes.  We'll be walking along the battlefields for part of the day.  Please watch the weather for the day!  We will be outside from about 9:30 until 1pm.  
• I have not had any to contact me about being a chaperon on this trip to my recollection. If you did, please send me an email. The good news- we have room on the buses!!!  The bad news- chaperones are also expected to pay $6 entrance fee.  Please let me know if I've missed any volunteers for this trip.
• We'll be eating lunch there.  Bag lunches with DISPOSABLE items are best so there's nothing to keep track of.  
• Your child may take a journal or a book to keep occupied on the hour-ish long bus ride.
• No backpack is necessary, but students may take a small bag for the bus.  
• Less is more!  Each child will have to keep up with any personal items they bring!  

This will be an amazing field trip the kids will be talking about for a long time to come.  Thanks for all your help in getting them ready.  If you have any questions drop me an email.

Boosterthon Date Change:
Due to the ongoing efforts by the LCE family to meet the immediate and significant needs of the Greater Columbia community, we have decided to reschedule our Boosterthon Fun Run fundraiser that was to take place later this month. Please mark your calendars for Jan. 13 for our kick-off pep rally and Jan. 22 for the Fun Run. We will provide more information closer to those dates.


One Hour Delay This Coming Week

Dear Richland Two Families,

I’m emailing you with important information about the start time for school next week. Please read this entire message.

School will start on a one-hour delay on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Students should report to the bus stop or school one hour later than the normal time. Three-year-old half-day classes will meet on a one-hour delay and dismiss at the normal time. Early Bird classes at the high schools will start on a one-hour delay.

Wednesday, Oct. 21, will not be an early release day for elementary and middle schools. Schools will start on a one-hour delay and dismiss at regular time, just like the schedule for Monday and Tuesday. Also on Wednesday, high schools will start on the same one-hour delay schedule as Monday and Tuesday.

As originally scheduled, students will not attend school on Thursday, Oct. 22, and Friday, Oct. 23.

We greatly appreciate your patience, as we work to get students back to as close to a regular schedule as possible. Safety continues to be our top priority. Almost all of our buses (100 out of 114) are still traveling on adjusted routes due to numerous road closures. The delay allows us to run all bus routes during daylight hours and avoid some traffic congestion caused by multiple detours. Please, do not drive around or move any barricades.

After Wednesday, we will re-assess road conditions, traffic patterns and congestion, and route times to determine the best course of action going forward. We will notify families on Thursday or Friday of next week about the schedule for Oct. 26–30.

If the one-hour delay creates a hardship for families, limited staff will be available so that schools can open their doors at the normal time.

If you know of a family who does not have Internet access at home, please help us share this information with them. They can visit a Richland Library branch, where computers and Internet access are available.
